It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Marilyn Galloway Walters and the Walters family announce the death of her beloved husband, Mr. William Preston (Wild Bill) Walters, 94. Mr. Walters entered into rest on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Prospect Church Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Sullivan and The Rev. Lee Herndon will officiate, with burial to follow in Prospect Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in his honor to: Prospect Methodist Church, P.O. Box 536, Hartsville, SC, 29550. Mr. Walters was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1932, in Chesterfield County, SC. He is the son of the late Daniel Preston Walters and the late Mary Moore Walters. He served his country in the United States Army. He worked for W.D. Arthur Oil Company. He then went on to work for Sonoco Products Company until his retirement thirty-three years later. He was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club. He was also a member of Prospect Church. Mr. Walters enjoyed a lifetime of farming, raising cattle, growing and selling hay, and John Deere tractors. He worked hard, and he taught his sons that same work ethic. He loved his faith, especially his grandchildren. He loved a party and he loved to dance. He loved people and he was full of life. Mr. Walters is survived by his wife, Marilyn Galloway Walters; Sons, Michael (Mike) V. Walters of Hartsville, SC, William P. Walters JR. (Dink) of Hartsville, SC; Step-sons, Gary (Jennifer) McEleven of Turbeville, SC, Kevin (Sandra) McEleven of Turbeville, SC, Troy (Nikki) McEleven of Lexington, SC; Special daughter-in-law, Robyn Walters of Hartsville, SC; Grandchild, Michael V. Walters JR of Columbia, SC; five step-grandchildren, and ten step-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Walters; Sisters, Inez Player, Mary Sue Chapman; and granddaughter, Erin Willoughby. The family would like to thank caregivers Hannah, Jesse, Terry, and Christy (Agape Hospice) for the wonderful care they provided. Also, thank you to Andrea Morris, a very special friend that helped give Mr. Walters excellent care and gave the family her support.
