Virginia E. Davis, 89, peacefully passed away on December 4, 2015 surrounded by her four daughters. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 6 at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the L.D.S. Missionary Fund, 50 N.Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84150 or McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506. Born on August 12, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Willie A. and Vera E. Edwards in Hartsville, SC. She married Emmett Ray Davis on January 22, 1949 in Vallejo, CA. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in June of 1969. She is survived by her daughters Glenda Crowley, Hartsville, SC; Brenda (Wayne) Daniels, Indian Trail, NC; Sandy (Dennis) Tenney, Sandy UT; and Ginger (Freddie) Freeman, Hartsville, SC. Her grandchildren are DeWayne Morris, Brian Morris, Nicole Jenkins, Brandi Morris, Steve Snipes, Rodney Daniels, Jennifer Thompson, Michael Tenney, Matthew Tenney, Ryan Tenney, Amanda Graf, Phinon Woodside, Garrit Hawk; 33 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family.She is also survived by her sisters, Miriam Houck, Hartsville, SC; Doris Marquis, Pleasant Grove, UT; and brother Deani Edwards, Hartsville, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Ray Davis, and her siblings, Naomi Edwards, Charles (Buddy) Edwards and Rutherford (Rufus) Edwards. After high school, Virginia attended Coker College and then went to work in Charleston at the Naval Shipyard processing paperwork for servicemen returning from WWII. She worked for Hartsville Manufacturing, W. D. Arthur Oil Company and 31 years as a bookkeeper for Goodson Accounting Firm. She loved spending time at the beach with her family and especially with her sisters. Virginia was a wonderful homemaker and was well known for her desire to serve others by sharing her homemade cooking. Her home was always open to family and friends for visiting and for those who needed a place to stay. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed the time spent with them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we take comfort in the assurance of the eternal nature of the family unit. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Morrell Rehabilitation staff and McLeod Hospice House for their compassionate care of our Mother.
