Mr. Thompson William Reed

To our wonderful husband, father, and friend: Thompson William Reed, age 80, of Hartsville, SC, went into the arms of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, on February 15, 2024. Tom fought a difficult battle of many health issues brought on by cancer and treatment. Heaven gained a beautiful soul. Tom Reed was born on March 24, 1943, to Charles William and Ruth Doris Allen Reed in Columbia, SC. Tom earned a degree in Electrical engineering. He worked with Tamper Corp. in Railroad Maintenance. He worked with Colombia Outdoor Advertising for many years. He later started Reedcraft, a country American furniture business. His first pieces were a child’s table and chairs built for his sons. Later, he had his own sign business, Grand Strand Graphics, in Murrells Inlet, SC. He was a SC State Constable and assisted the police departments in Horry County when needed. He was creative and pursued many different endeavors throughout his life. He was an awesome woodworker and loved building furniture. He loved trains, riding motorcycles, working on classic cars, restoring antiques, collecting items of the past, historical research, and traveling with his wife. He was a member of The Blue Knights Motorcycle Club in Myrtle Beach. He was a Life Member of The Darlington County Descendants of Confederate Veterans and shared many historical presentations to different groups around the state. He was a member of the Military Order of Stars and Bars. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a Guardian of a family Cemetery in Blackville, SC. He was a supporter of the Darlington County Historical Commission. He enjoyed the mountains and always found peace there. He wrote a book, Orville the Tree, when the boys were three. In 1980, he met his wife, Teresa Outen Reed. They wed on November 21, 1981, in Columbia, SC. Thompson W. Reed was predeceased by his parents, Charles W. and Ruth Doris Allen, and his brother, Charles Allen Reed. He is survived by his bride, Teresa Outen Reed; his sister, Marie Reed Finch; his children, Cynthia Ann Reed Gerstner(Chris), Kenneth Allan Reed (Tena), Jason Christian Reed (Angie), Angela Reed Millen, Tracy Reed Steagall (Kevin), Margaret “Mags” Walker. His grandchildren, Megan Reed, Gabriel Reed, Heather Powers, Jessica Backman, Lindsey Reed Rabon, Alleya Reed, Robert Millen, Matt Millen, Crystal Glenn, Kevin Steagall, Christopher Steagall, nephews Bill Finch (Gina), Reed Finch, Chuck Reed and niece Tina Reed, and great-grandchildren. We will have a celebration of life with family and friends at the Darlington County Historical Commission & Museum in Darlington, SC, 204 Hewitt Street, Darlington, SC, on April 6, 2024, from 11:00 - 3:00 pm. Please join us to honor this awesome man. Tom loved life to the fullest and had a heart of gold. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need. He was loved by so many lives he touched. May God bless his family and friends, who will dearly miss his presence on this earth. Until we meet again in Glory my Love.
