It is with deep sorrow that the Smith family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Teresa Kay Lee Smith, 65. Mrs. Smith, the widow of Thomas Curtis Smith Sr., entered into rest on Sunday, November 27, 2022. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A graveside funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, December 2, 2022, in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery, with The Rev. Christopher Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the funeral home. Teresa Kay Lee Smith had many names. Wife, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, friend, Nanna, and Nanny, but her most precious title was “Momma.” Kay’s face would light up, and her smile would be so big when speaking of her children and grandchildren. Family to Kay was everything. Kay, no matter the situation, if a family member were in need of food, shelter, a ride, a child-free weekend, advice on how to cook something to parenting tips, she would be there to lend an ear and hand to pick you up and if needed to also pop some sense back to you. There was always room in Kay’s heart and table for one more. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed meeting people and learning their stories. Kay loved the beach, and when she would get the chance, she would visit. The beach was her peaceful place. She felt as if the waves would take all her doubt and stress away. She can now walk the endless beaches of heaven. When you visit the beach, sit back and close your eyes, when the ocean breeze brushes your cheek, that is Kay giving you a kiss. When you feel the warmth of the sun’s rays upon your shoulders, think of the warmth of Kay’s love. Until we meet again, Nanny. May God hold you in the palm of his hand. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Lee Carter of Oak Island, NC, Joyce Elaine Dancy of Sandy Ridge, NC; brothers, Robert Edwin Lee of Wichita, KS, Daniel Alton Lee of Oregon; children, Ashely Southern (Rodney) of Elgin, SC, Robert Smith III (Mandy) of Georgetown, SC; grandchildren, Brittany McKay, Grayson McKay, Isabella Smith, River Smith, Lilah Smith; great-grandchild, Kamryn Smith. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and cousins, all of whom she loved dearly. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Homer Ernest Lee, Thomas Aiken Lee; sister, Norma Jean Strickland.
