Rayford Dixon Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rayford Dixon Jr. announces his passing at the age of 70. Born on January 28, 1953. Rayford lived a full and meaningful life. He was the son of the late Rayford Dixon Sr., and the late Pearline Hall Dixon. He was a loving husband to Jan Atkinson Dixon, proud father to Chad Dixon (Sharon Rogers-Haynes) of Hartsville, SC, and Rayford "Ray" Dixon III (Nikos Tsakonas-Dixon) of Austin, TX. He was a devoted brother to DeWayne Dixon (Kathy) of Cheraw, SC, and sisters Dianne Craft (Craig) of Kenansville, NC, Connie Dixon of Hartsville, SC, Lesley Dixon of Hartsville, SC, and Mary Calcutt (Brett) of Hartsville, SC. He was a cherished grandfather to Alexander "Alec" Dixon of Austin, TX, Emily Grace Dixon of Chicago, IL, Ella Kathryn Dixon of Chapin, SC, Kyleigh Atkinson (David) of Hartsville, SC, Victoria “Tori” Johnson (Alec Broumback) of Hartsville, SC, and great-grandfather to Millie Wilds Atkinson of Hartsville, SC. Rayford dedicated many years of his career to Horne Ford Motors in Florence, SC, where he managed the trucking service department. Prior to that, he served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. Rayford was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. He was a jack-of-all-trades, able to tackle any project, and loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He was also an avid animal lover and raised and trained hunting dogs. Rayford was a member of Greater Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Greater Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Danny Holley officiating. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the many friends who have visited and supported the family over the last several months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude or Shriners in Rayford's name. Rayford will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
