Mary Lutie McLaurin Fletcher, 86, of Hartsville, SC, passed away on January 3, 2026, peacefully at her home of nearly 60 years. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 145 E. College Avenue, Hartsville, SC, with Rev. Fred McDaniel officiating. The family will receive visitors in All Saints Hall immediately following the worship service. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Beaver Dam Cemetery in McColl, SC, on Hwy. 15. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home are caring for the family. Mary Lutie was born on March 14, 1939, in Dillon County, SC, to the late R. Lee McLaurin, Sr., and O’Dessa Lee Bethea McLaurin. She graduated from Dillon High School in 1957 and from Columbia College in 1961 with a degree in Elementary Education. Over the course of 15 years, she taught in elementary schools in Aiken, Darlington, and Hartsville. She married Wade Douglas Fletcher of McColl, SC, on July 29, 1961, at First Presbyterian Church of Dillon, SC. From this joyful union were born two sons, Doug and Robert. Mary Lutie is remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother. She delighted in making her home a place of welcome and hospitality to others, and she treasured time with extended family, including many happy vacations at the Santee. She loved to travel the world with family and friends, and to dance with her husband. A faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Hartsville, Mary Lutie served as an active volunteer and steward in the many organizations she enjoyed, including the Maxine Garland Circle, the Pine and Lake Garden Club, the Thursday Study Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club. In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by her son W. Douglas “Doug” Fletcher, Jr., of Silver City, NM; her son Robert T. Fletcher and daughter-in-law Sarah of Columbia, SC; granddaughter Abigail Fletcher of Bozeman, MT; grandsons Duncan Fletcher of Arvada, CO, Wade Fletcher and wife Anna of Chicago, IL, and Wesley Fletcher of Columbia, SC; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers, R. Lee “Bobby” McLaurin, Jr. and Duncan Bethea McLaurin, and by her sister-in-law, Sue Hayes McLaurin. Her family extends thanks to the special caregivers who provided comfort to Mary Lutie during her last months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 145 E. College Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550, or to a charity of one’s choice.
