It is with deep sorrow that the Atkinson family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Lou Doris Bullard Atkinson, 81. Mrs. Atkinson, the widow of Clyde Benjamin Atkinson, Sr., entered into rest on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Monday, November 10, 2025, in Spring Branch Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Rhyne and The Rev. Buddy Amerson will officiate, with burial to follow in The Atkinson Family Cemetery, 2042 Prospect Church Road, Hartsville, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Spring Branch Baptist Church, 5106 Middendorf Road, Hartsville, SC 29550, or The Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Mrs. Atkinson was born on Monday, September 25, 1944, in Chesterfield County, SC. She is the daughter of the late William Curtis Bullard and the late Mary Magdalene Linton Bullard. Doris attended Spring Branch Baptist Church and was an active member of the WMU. She loved music and sang in the choir. Later in life, Doris volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem and as a member of the Hospital Auxiliary at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. By far her greatest roles were those of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She considered her family her greatest accomplishment. She is survived by her loving sons, Clyde "Benjie" (Tammy) Atkinson, Jr. of Hartsville, SC, Curtis "Peppie" (Margie) Atkinson of Webster County, MS, Chad Ray (Sara) Atkinson of N.Salt Lake City, UT, Clint "Chimp" (Juli) Atkinson of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jay) Rivers of Chesterfield, SC, Ashley (Charlie) Fernandes of Houston, TX, Curtis (Emily) Atkinson of Brandon, MS, Kayla (Chase) McKnight of Hartsville, SC, Kolby Atkinson of Hartsville, SC, Samantha Atkinson of Hartsville, SC, Taylor Atkinson of Hartsville, SC; great grandchildren, Logan, Leighton, Lillian Atkinson of Brandon, MS, Sadie, Jackson, Bennett, Scarlett Rivers of Chesterfield, SC, Reid & AvaJane McKnight of Hartsville, SC; friend, Mr. Gene Dukes. In addition to her husband, Clyde Benjamin Atkinson, Sr., Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her parents, William Curtis and Mary Magdalene Linton Bullard; siblings, Jesse Bullard, Ina Hoffman, Blease Bullard, Ellie Tyner, Major Bullard, Junior Linton, Rachel Branham, and Charles Bullard; and daughter-in-law, Donna Atkinson. The family would like to extend a Special Thank You to Agape Hospice for their excellent care and service during her care with them.
