The family of Leon Harold Walters, 81, announces the passing of their beloved husband and father. Mr. Walters entered into rest on Monday, June 10, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Cedar Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Williams will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends inside the sanctuary immediately following the service. Memorials may be made in his honor to Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 1635 Cedar Creek Rd, Hartsville, South Carolina 29550. Mr. Walters was born on December 22, 1942, in Hartsville, SC. He was the son of the late Wade Hampton Walters Sr. and the late Lula Hawkins Walters. He was a dedicated hard worker and a devoted Christian. He attended Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He loved Gospel music, especially when his daughter Shawn, nieces, and nephews would sing. He was a Gamecock fan through thick and thin. He loved fishing, the perfect catfish stew, and perfected growing the best tomatoes each summer. Most importantly, he loved Jesus. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Teal Walters; daughter, Shawn Walters; son, Stacy Walters; two siblings, a brother, William (Anne) Walters of Lugoff, SC, and a sister, Pat Gibson of Hartsville, SC; sister-in-law, Sue Walters of Hartsville, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews, some of whom called him Uncle Buddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Gaskins and Johnnie Walters Bryant; brothers, Dub Walters and Carol Walters; brother-in-law, Sammy Gibson; and his beloved four-legged best friend, Buddy. The family would like to thank Dr. Abraham Areephanthu of Medical Group, Dr. Mark Stellingworth of Prisma Cardiology of Hartsville; Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Jeffery Scott Martin, Dr. Patrick Joseph McCann, Dr. Rebecca Suzanna Napier, and Dr. James Oware Ampadu of Prisma Advanced Heart Care and LVAD clinic. A special thank you to the nurse practitioners of the Prisma Advanced Heart Care and LVAD clinic, Katherine Marie Coleman, Christina Rose Adkins, Michele L O'Hara, and Jimmy Morgan. Forever grateful to all the caregivers and nurses at Primsa Advanced Heart Care and LVAD clinic, who attended to every need, treating Leon and the family with such care and kindness. Thank you to our church family for all the prayers and support throughout his trying journey and the love you all have shown towards our family.
