With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Larry Mitchell O'Neal of Hartsville, South Carolina, who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2025, just two days before his 65th birthday. He was 64 years old. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A graveside funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Magnolia Cemetery, with The Rev. Tom Gainey officiating. The family will celebrate his life immediately following the service at the home of his cousins, Ricky and Jeff Johnson, 3281 Oates Highway, Lamar, SC 29069. Larry was born on Friday, September 16, 1960, to the late Dewey O'Neal and the late Geraldine Warren O'Neal. A dedicated electrician by trade, Larry brought light into every space he entered, both through his work and through his presence. Larry loved fishing, baseball, and cheering on his Carolina Gamecocks. But above all, he loved his family— and he loved Jesus. He had one of the biggest hearts, always open to those around him. He never met a stranger and always made those around him laugh. We rejoice knowing that Larry is now in Heaven, at peace and in the presence of his Savior. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope that we will see him again. He is now rejoicing in glory, surrounded by perfect love. He is survived by his loving fiancée, Synthia Chapman, and his children: Larry O'Neal, Heather O'Neal, Tiffiny (Joshua) Hall, and Casey Barfield. He was a proud grandfather to Jazmyne Parnell, Jayzon Parnell, Nathaniel Brunson, Eliyjah Brunson, Dylan Hall, Kaiden Hall, Joseph Barfield, Dustin Barfield, Emma Barfield, and a great-grandfather to one. He also leaves behind his only brother, Jerry O'Neal; aunts and uncles, Eloise Edens of North Charleston, SC, Shorty (Donna) O’Neal of Rock Hill, SC, Brenda Beasley of Hartsville, SC, Barbara Ann Byrd of Patrick, SC, Linda Bradshaw of Patrick, SC, Carolyn Funderburk of Patrick, SC; cousins, Jeff (Debbie) Johnson of Lamar, SC, Ricky (Marlene) Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Phyllis Edens of North Charleston, SC, Billy Edens of North Charleston, SC, Missy (Ron) Glancy of Hartsville, SC, Bud (Leeann) O’Neal of Hartsville, SC, Joey O’Neal of Hartsville, SC, and Valerie (Franklin) Reynolds of Hartsville, SC.
