A Life Filled with Love, Laughter, and Adventure John Wallace passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 49. He will be remembered as a devoted dad, loyal friend, and someone who lived life with curiosity, hard work, and a love for adventure. A visitation to celebrate his life will be held from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, 306 W. Home Avenue, Hartsville, SC. All who loved John are welcome to come share stories and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016. John's greatest joy in life was being a dad to his two girls, Sullivan Jane Wallace (14) and Emery Brooke Wallace (11). He loved nothing more than cheering them on from the sidelines—whether it was at a volleyball game, swim meet, or soccer field. His girls were the center of his world, and he was so proud to watch them grow. In 2009, John married his wife, Brittany, in Riviera Maya, Mexico, surrounded by some of their closest friends and family. Together for over 26 years, John and Brittany built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories with their daughters. John was a 1994 graduate of Hartsville High School. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and later earned his degree in Computer Science from Midlands Technical College. This education laid the foundation for a 26-year career in Information Technology. He was first hired by Blue Cross Blue Shield in Columbia, SC, before moving to Thomas Cooper and Company (TCC), an affiliate of BCBS, as Vice President of Information Systems. John stayed with TCC until 2021, when the company merged with PAI. He played an instrumental role in that merger, helping lead the transition. Throughout his career, John earned the respect of colleagues who became lifelong friends, and he was known for his remarkable technical ability—able to take apart a computer blindfolded and put it back together just the same. Outside of work, John lived for the outdoors and sports. He had a passion for tennis, playing league tennis on James Island and competing as part of the Maybank Tennis team for 10 years, where he built lasting friendships on and off the court. He loved snowboarding trips out west with friends, casting a fishing line, surfing waves, and of course, spending time on the beach. In fact, if you were to ask him what his favorite places to vacation were, he would tell you his best memories were made on the ski slopes of Colorado, the canals of the Florida Keys, or the beaches of Charleston. He was also an avid Gamecock fan, spending fall Saturdays at Williams-Brice Stadium, and he enjoyed watching both football and baseball. He especially loved following the Atlanta Braves and even took a few family trips to Truist Park. John also had a tremendous fondness for dogs, a love he inherited from his mother at an early age. And while family was always his greatest love, his friends came in a close second. The ones he loved most were given nicknames—you know who you are. His adventurous spirit, work ethic, and love for his family will carry on through the stories, memories, and laughter of those who knew him best. Frye (Jay) of Columbia, SC; Brother-In-Law, Travis Darwin Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Roxanne Darwin, Little River, SC; nieces and nephews, Bankston Wallace, Cooper Wallace, Katie Wallace Frye, Maddox Darwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Bobby R. Wallace and the late Martha Ann McCleave Wallace.
