It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Suzanne Skinner Beasley announces the death of her beloved husband, Mr. John Robert “Johnny” Beasley, 80. Mr. Beasley entered into rest on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A graveside service to honor his life will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Hebron United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Jerry McManus will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina, P.O. Box 80459, Charleston, SC 29416-0459. Mr. Beasley was born on Wednesday, January 24, 1945, in Hartsville, SC. He is the son of the late John Clarence Beasley and the late Ellen Louise Walters Griggs. Johnny began his working career at age 10 as a curb boy at the Swirly Top before moving on to Ruth’s Drive-In. He worked various jobs until he completed his high school education, obtaining a job at Sonoco Products Company, where he worked for 10 years. Upon leaving Sonoco, he established his own wholesale car business, Beasley Autos. His most satisfying job was in law enforcement, driving to Greenville Tech to obtain his constable degree. He worked as a State Constable for two years until he was given the opportunity by Sheriff Glenn Campbell to join the Darlington County Sheriff’s Department. He completed training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, excelling in Physical Fitness and Emergency Vehicle Operations. He had the skill of driving as good backwards as forwards. He served as a Sheriff’s Deputy for 18 years, working his way up to corporal. He earned the nickname “Law Dog” while in the warrant division. Johnny was very active in sports, playing on Baron’s softball team and golf. He was very competitive. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Suzanne Skinner Beasley; sister, Judy (Thomas) Graham; sister-in-law, Rebecca Skinner-Fulmer; brother-in-law, Richard Galloway; nieces: Sheryl (Mark) Howle and Melanie (Mark) Watkins; and nephews: Rocky (Lisa) Sellers, Richie (Sherry) Galloway, Van (Leslie) Galloway, Glenn (Hannah) Fulmer III, and Benjamin Skinner III. He is also survived by a daughter and many special great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gene Beasley; a special niece, Caroline Terry; his mother-in-law, Martyn Skinner; and his sisters-in-law, Debby Galloway and Millicent Munn. He was a loyal and loving husband, brother, and uncle who will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of McLeod Hospice House for their excellent care and love during this difficult time.
