It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Susan Trevor Clemons and her family announce the death of her beloved husband, Mr. James Sherman Clemons II, 76. Mr. Clemons entered into rest on Monday, December 23, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Davis will officiate with entombment to follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741. Mr. Clemons was born on Monday, February 16, 1948, in Chattanooga, TN. He is the son of the late James Luke Clemons and the late Reba Henley Clemons. He attended Brainerd Junior High School, where he first met his future wife, Susan Trevor. He went on to graduate from Brainerd High School and later earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. At Tennessee Tech, James was a founding member of the Kappa Mu Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he forged lifelong friendships. Upon graduation, James began his career in Chattanooga with Combustion Engineering. In September of 1970, he married Susan Trevor in Chattanooga, and the couple later moved to Hartsville, South Carolina, in 1981 with their two children, Jamie and Lara. James had a successful career working with A.O. Smith and Sonoco Products Company. His work took him on travels across the globe, where he built lasting relationships and gained valuable experiences. He later became the Public Service Director for the City of Hartsville, where he loved serving the community until his retirement. Outside of his professional life, he was an avid outdoorsman, taking great joy in working in his yard, hunting with friends, and enjoying time spent in nature. He was also a passionate sports fan, with a special fondness for Alabama football, though he always made an exception when Clemson played — where both of his children attended. He spent many wonderful summers at Pawleys Island and trips to the mountains. He cherished the time spent with family. James is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Susan; children, Jamie and Lara; grandchildren, Benson, Trevor and Graham; sister, Jeanne; niece, Pam and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
