Rev. Hazel Patricia Mixon, 77, a devoted servant of God and beloved pastor of Bible Truth Holiness Church for 44 years, joyfully entered into the presence of Jesus on April 15, 2025, crossing through the gates of glory to the arms of the Savior she so faithfully served. Born on October 1, 1947, Hazel dedicated her life to spreading the gospel, caring for the brokenhearted, and being a light in the darkness for all who knew her. Her life was a testament to Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me”. A true shepherd to her flock, Pastor Mixon poured her heart and soul into her ministry. She was known not just for her powerful sermons but for her boundless love and compassion. Hazel didn’t just preach the Word of God—she lived it. She carried the love of Christ into every hospital room, nursing home, and prayer meeting, showing the truth of “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). Day or night, her phone was always ringing, and Hazel never hesitated to answer the call to prayer. She knelt beside those in need, interceding on their behalf with the kind of faith that moves mountains. To those who were hurting, she brought comfort. To those who were lost, she offered hope. And to those who sought the Lord, she was a guide who pointed always to the cross. Pastor Mixon’s faith was matched only by her love for her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Tommie Mixon and Ruth Beasley Mixon, and her siblings, Phyllis Partridge, Wilbur Mixon, Robert Mixon, Virginia Lee McDougald, Allen “Al” Mixon, Tommie Edward “Ed” Mixon, Linda Mixon Barr, and Annie Mae Johnson. She is survived by her nieces, Danielle Mixon and Tara Mixon Abson, who became like daughters; their children, who were like grandchildren: Dawson Weatherford, Gradon Weatherford, Jaylen Weatherford, RJ Abson, and Bella Abson; her brothers and sisters: Alice Kelley, Paula Galloway (Harvey), Billy Jay “Bud” Mixon, Kay Woods (Calvin), and Donnie Mixon; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. Her legacy of faith and love lives on in each of them. Hazel’s life reminds us of the promise found in 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” She has now received her crown of righteousness and rests in eternal peace, reunited with her Savior in joy and triumph. As we reflect on her remarkable life, we can’t help but marvel at the eternal impact of her service to the Lord. We saw firsthand how her ministry transformed lives here on earth, but we can only imagine the countless souls in heaven who were touched and forever changed by her unwavering dedication. What a beautiful thought it is to picture heaven rejoicing, celebrating the fruit of her faithfulness that will continue to bless generations to come. A funeral service to honor Hazel’s extraordinary life will be held at 1 o'clock on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Bible Truth Holiness Church. The Rev. Ryver Cook, The Rev. Stephanie Nesbitt, and Steve Winburn will officiate, with burial to follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Bible Truth Holiness Church. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home are caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bible Truth Holiness Church, reflecting her lifelong commitment to serving others. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that Hazel is now experiencing the fullness of God’s promises. Her life will continue to inspire us to love as she loved, serve as she served, and live with the unshakable faith she carried in her heart. As she often reminded us, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1) May her joyful reunion with Jesus, her Savior, bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
