It is with deep sorrow that the Stewart family announces the death of Mrs. Geraldine Morrison Stewart Dalton, 89. She passed away very unexpectedly on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 9:30 PM. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at New Market United Methodist Church. The Rev. Corinthia Mack and The Rev. Patrick Dye will officiate, with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the New Market United Methodist Church. In lieu of Flowers, please make donations to the Dylan Adams Endowment, which was created by her niece Jennifer and Mike Adams in memory of their beloved son, Dylan. The Dylan Adams Endowment, P.O. Box 1902, Hartsville, South Carolina 29551. Jerry was lonely and began discussions with her daughters in January about moving into The Legacy of Hartsville. She had friends living there and asked to be added to the wait list for a room. A call was received on March 6th, and her move was completed on Tuesday, March 10th. Jerry was married to her high school sweetheart, Emmett Lee Stewart, Sr., in July of 1954, until his death in February 1991. Together, they raised four children, Lee, Susan, Angela, and Kathy. Parents should never bury their children – and she never got over losing her son. In June of 1999. Jerry married Charles Dalton until his death in January of 2009 and is survived by Jack Dalton and Lura Baker. One of Jerry’s proudest accomplishments was completing her nursing degree and walking with the 1974 Hartsville High School graduating class – along with her two oldest children, Lee and Susan. On September 13, 2025, her three girls planned a surprise 89th Birthday party. Needless to say, it did not remain a surprise. Granny – as she was known by all grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of the friends of the grands/great-grands – figured it out – and we incorporated her ideas into the party planning. And what a wonderful party it was. Over 75 people attended, and it was the best party ever. She loved every minute, and so did every person who attended. Prior to this special celebration, her four children planned an 85th Birthday to celebrate with her beloved Atlanta Braves. Over twenty people, her family and friends, including one of her favorite people, Pastor Pete, as we all affectionately called Patrick Dye, spent a weekend in Atlanta at Truist Park watching her favorite team EVER lose to the Miami Marlins 4 - 6. But our spirits were not dampened…. We were, however, in Atlanta, and it was amazing watching her enjoy her Braves. Jerry enjoyed a long career as a nurse, which started at the Byerly Hospital in the Emergency Room. After several years, she took a job as an industrial nurse at Klopman Mills (which later became Galey & Lord) in Society Hill, SC, with her dear friend, Millie Bunch. Many years later, she became one of the nurses in the Medical Department at Sonoco Products Company, and became a lifelong friend of Dr. Allen Sloan, Nellie Collins, Maize Mims, Anne Robbins, Edna Sims, Sarah Garrett, and Frankie Lane. After her retirement, she frequently encountered familiar faces recognizing her as Mrs. Stewart from the Medical Department. She is survived by her three daughters, Susan S. Goode (Tony James) of Hartsville, SC, Angela S. (Terry) Barfield of Troy, OH, and Kathy Stewart (Vicki Scott) of Andrews, SC, along with her daughter-in-law, Kay Abbott Stewart of Hartsville, SC. Jerry has two remaining brothers, James William (Bud) Morrison of Hartsville, SC, and James Carson Morrison, Jr. of Anderson, SC. Granny loved her family and is also survived by her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Lee’s children, Emily (Stephen) Hamilton, and their daughter, Kendall, Katie Winburn (Bucky Flowers) and her son, Ethan, and Andrew (Kerri) Stewart and their children, Emmett and Murphy; Susan’s children, Heather (Charlie) Smith and their girls, Stella and Claire, John (Amy) Goode and their daughter, Katie (Jackson) Balance, and their children, Charlie, Afton, and Mary Rose, and Sandy (Al) Woodle and their sons, Devyn and Colton; Angela’s children, Meredith (Todd) Prenger, Mallory (Tyler) Allen, and Kaitlyn (Ben) Way, and their three children, Emmett, Charlie, and Mena. Jerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, J. Carson and Nita Truett Morrison; her sister, Betty Leeder; brother-in-law, George Leeder; brother, Thomas Maxie Morrison; sisters-in-law, Faye B. Morrison, Ella K. Morrison, and Phyllis G. Morrison; son, Emmett Lee Stewart, Jr.; son-in-law, Johnny Clifton Goode, Sr.; nephew, Jimmy Morrison; and her great-nephew, Dylan Adams. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Bill Martin, Dr. Mark Stellingworth and the entire staff at Carolina Pines Hospital, and Kristin Carpenter, as well as the entire staff at The Legacy of Hartsville.
