Mr. Gene Ousley

It is with deep sorrow that the Ousley family announces the death of Mr. Gene Ousley, 76. Mr. Ousley entered into rest on Friday, October 21, 2022. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Greater Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Holley and the Rev. Patrick Dye officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in McBee Cemetery. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late Franklin Eugene Ousley, Sr. and the late Ganell McKenzie Ousley. He was a member of Greater Heights Baptist Church. He was a 1964 graduate of McBee High School. He attended Mars Hill College where he played football and attended Clemson University where he played baseball. He was a congressional intern in Washington, D.C. when he was 28. He was a farmer for most of his early life, farming with his family at Ousley Farms. He later worked for Carolina Sportsman, was involved in real estate, and then retired from Paper Stock Dealers (now Sonoco Recycling) where he was the plant manager. He was an avid bass fisherman and won numerous tournaments. Gene was a dedicated Christian that loved to read God's Word. He was an avid Clemson Tigers and McBee Panthers fan. He was the proud "Pa" to his grandsons and loved spending time with them. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ann Ousley of McBee, SC; daughter, Brigitte McAteer (Scotty) of Hartsville, SC; stepchildren, Kathy Horton of Jefferson, SC, Darryl Atkinson of McBee, SC; grandchildren, Landon McAteer, Noah McAteer, Logan McAteer all of Hartsville, SC, Hannah Horton of Jefferson, SC; great-granddaughter, Gracelyn McAteer of Hartsville, SC; brother, Mack Ousley (Judy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nephew, Phil Ousley (Gretchen) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nieces, Makel Maleckar (Chris) of Ridgeville, SC, Katie Ousley of Greenwood, SC; many friends that loved him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Ousley; grandparents, Glee and Ruby McKenzie.
