It is with deep sorrow that the Steen family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Frances Hoffman Steen, 82. Mrs. Steen, the widow of John S. "Bud" Steen, entered into rest on Friday, November 28, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Middendorf Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Rhyne and The Rev. Buddy Amerson will officiate, with burial to follow in Middendorf Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in her honor to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 3810, or to Crescent Hospice, 1039 Cheraw Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512. Mrs. Steen was born on Wednesday, March 17, 1943, in Chesterfield County, SC. She is the daughter of the late Woodrow W. Hoffman and the late Hattie Gainey Hoffman. She was employed by Hartsville Manufacturing Company, Kendall Textiles, and Roller Bearings, Inc., where she retired after twenty-one years of service. She was a lifetime member of Middendorf Baptist Church, where she was named Middendorf 2010 Mother of the Year. She served as Sunday School/Training Union teacher and choir director. She was awarded the Mother with the Most Children on Mother's Day for many years. She had a passion for sewing. She would sew dresses for her daughters for church and holiday occasions. She had a giving and compassionate heart. She instilled compassion, care, a hard work ethic, empathy, and love for family in all her daughters and grandchildren. She is survived by her loving daughters, Jenny (Warren) Morrell of Hartsville, SC, Connie (Mark) Mixon of Hartsville, SC, Patty Hayes of Hartsville, SC, Audrey (Robert) Lane of Hartsville, SC, Vernie Kay (Junior) Windham of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Phillip (Amanda) Morrell, Tiffany (Alan) Jackson, Chelsea (Sam) Rogers, Brittany (Christopher) Hughes; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Morrell, Clark Morrell, Madelyn Hughes, Winry Hughes, Elven Hughes, Aria Rogers, Rowan Rogers In addition to her parents and her late husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lavern "Buddy" Hoffman of Hartsville, SC, and William H. "Dub" Hoffman of Hartsville, SC; and her sister, Verna Faye Hoffman of Hartsville, SC. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Brian Sponseller, Carla Tyner, and Crescent Hospice for their care and guidance.
