It is with deep sorrow that Mr. Richard McLean "Dick" Porter, Sr., and his family announce the death of his beloved wife, Mrs. Brenda Crockett Porter, 85. Mrs. Porter entered into rest on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 1 o'clock on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, with The Rev. Ashley Cheek officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Thornwell Home for Children, 302 S. Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325. Brenda was born on June 11, 1940, in Pocahontas, VA. She was the daughter of the late Hazel Perry Crockett and the late Euless Blaine Crockett. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1957, Lees-McRae Junior College in 1959, and Radford University in 1962. She taught in the Fairfax County School System in Virginia from 1962 until 1966. She married Richard McLean Porter in 1966, and they had three children: Wendy Carole, Richard McLean, Jr., and Betsy Megan. She also taught in Elizabethtown, NC, and Forsyth County, NC, before moving to Hartsville in 1969. She worked part-time as the DCE of First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville, SC, from 1972 until 1976. She taught at Hartsville High School from 1982 until 1992. She received her Master's in Education from Francis Marion University in 1984. In 1995, she and Dick purchased Minnie's Giftique in Hartsville. She has been an active member of First Presbyterian Church since 1969. She served as a Deacon, a member of the choir, a youth leader, a pastor's aid, and went on several mission trips to the Dominican Republic. Her favorite place to be was Montreat, NC, where she and Dick attended multiple Arts, Recreation, and Worship conferences, Worship and Music conferences, Fall Craft Weeks, and an occasional Youth Conference. It is a place where it is easy to experience God. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard McLean Porter Sr. of Hartsville, SC; children, Wendy Porter Folsom (Cleve) of Hartsville, SC, Richard McLean Porter, Jr. (Susan) of Greensboro, NC, and Megan Porter Grant (Kevin) of Pawley's Island, SC; grandchildren, Caroline Leigh Porter (Alan), Kramer Cleveland Folsom III, Porter McLean Folsom, Perry Claire Gore, Karenna Katherine Porter, and Richard Carpenter Porter; great grandchildren, Henry Jiahai Porter Peh, and Sohie Jiale Porter Peh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betsy Crockett Mills.
