Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Shirley King Atkinson, 83, who entered into rest on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, will be held at 10 o'clock on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Westview Memorial Park Cemetery in Hartsville, SC. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Memorials may be made to Highland Park UM Church, Imagine Campaign, 1300 Second Loop Road, Florence, SC 29501; Wesley United Methodist Church, 145 E. College Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550; or First Baptist Church, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550. Mrs. Atkinson was born on September 4, 1936, in Hartsville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Paul Frank and Nancy Skipper King. Shirley dedicated her life to taking care of others. She worked for fifty years as a nurse and business manager for Dr. James Morphis and Morphis Pediatrics. After retirement, her days were spent taking care of her husband. Shirley always had a smile on her face. She was a very special mother and Nannie. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Roby Atkinson, and a sister, Inez Hursey. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Joan (Scott) Pennstrom; a son, Rick (Carolyn) Atkinson; grandsons, Josh Atkinson and John (Ashton) Pennstrom; and great-granddaughters, Anna Lee and Ella Kate Pennstrom. Shirley is also survived by a sister, Martha Smith, and a brother, Tommy King. The family is grateful to the staff at The Retreat at Carolina Bay for the love and care given to Shirley during the past year; and to McLeod Hospice.
