Mr. Richard Gerald "Jay" Mahn

Richard Gerald “Jay” Mahn, Jr., 55, of Sugargate Lane, passed away at home on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Jay was born on April 3, 1966, to Richard Gerald Mahn, Sr., and Elayne Timmons Mahn. He is survived by Wil Mahn (Mia), Warner Mahn (Madison), Julie Jones Mahn, and his mother, Elayne Timmons Mahn. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, Lula MayDee Mahn. Jay was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gerald Mahn, Sr.; paternal grandparents, A.W. and Lula Mahn; maternal grandparents, Pet and Mitch Mitchum. Jay’s family and friends will remember him as loving, dependable, generous, and supportive. Jay graduated from Hartsville High School, Class of 1984, and the University of South Carolina, Class of 1988. During his years at USC, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was a chef, restauranteur, and founder of three successful Hartsville restaurants: Culinary Company, Shug’s Smokehouse, and Depot Diner. A beloved member of the Hartsville community, Jay impacted many lives through his generosity, kind spirit, and delicious food. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his boys. Big Boy – this is the only time you have ever been too early. We will miss you and love you forever. A celebration of Jay’s life will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will hold a brief visitation immediately following the service.
