Mr. Pressly Coker Stogner

It is with deep sorrow that the Stogner family announces the death of Mr. Pressly Coker Stogner, 90. Mr. Stogner entered into rest on Monday, May 22, 2023. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A graveside service to honor his life will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, May 26, 2023, in Magnolia Cemetery, officiated by Father Bill Oldland. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in the chapel at the Presbyterian Village in Summerville, SC, officiated by Chaplain Stephen Wilkins. Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Mr. Stogner was born in Hartsville, SC. He was the son of the late Clarence and Katherine Gainey Stogner. He is survived by his son, Eric Stogner, and wife, Clara, and grandchildren Matthew Stogner and wife, Victoria, and Kristen Stogner, as well as his daughter, Pamela Barcomb, and her husband, Brian. He is also survived by his sister Catherine Stogner Somers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jane (Moss) Stogner, as well as three other siblings: Clarence Lee Stogner, Penrose (Pinky) Stogner, and Selma (Stogner) LeHardy. Coker was a humble, kind, and cheerful man, a loving husband and father who gave generously to provide every opportunity to succeed in life to his children. He accomplished much in his professional and personal life while overcoming the challenges that came with being legally blind his entire life. Coker, like some of his other siblings, attended the Spartanburg School for the Blind. A big advocate of the value of hard work and education, Coker went on to attend or graduate from Perkins School for the Blind in Boston as well as Hunter College in NJ and the University of South Carolina to earn his degrees as a psychologist. He spent his professional career putting to good use his various college degrees to serve others with similar handicaps in the field of education as a proud public servant working for the State of NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Coker was even recognized by Congress for his work on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which protects people with disabilities from discrimination. He enriched the lives of many by his tireless service to the disadvantaged and by his personal presence in the lives of others. He is a native of South Carolina and returned to be close to his roots and his extended family, having retired at the Isle of Palms, SC, and spending his final years at the Presbyterian Village in Summerville, SC. He will be sorely missed by his extended family and close friends at the Presbyterian Village. But we all can rejoice with him as he enters the kingdom of heaven, knowing that he is experiencing resurrection and restoration in its highest form. Just imagine what a nearly blind man will experience as he enters heaven with fully restored vision! He endured great hardship, overcame big challenges, and was an inspiration to many.
