It is with deep sorrow that the Hayes family announces the death of a beloved brother, Matthew John Hayes, 60. Mr. Hayes entered into rest on Saturday, September 25, 2021. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, in Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC. The Rev. William D. "Bill" Oldland will officiate and the family will receive friends following the service. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Mr. Hayes was born in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late John W. Hayes, Jr. and Dorris Geyer Hayes. He worked as a Disc Jockey for two radio stations and had a passion for music. He often played music for private events and parties and operated the soundboard for a few well-known bands. His music room at home was filled with stacks upon stacks of vinyl records and several old record players. He is survived by his brother, David (Candace) Hayes of Lexington, SC; nieces and nephews, Chandler Sullivan, and Lara Sullivan; cousin, George Michael Banks; and a long-time family friend, Susan Taylor of Hartsville, SC.
