Martha C."Doobie" Blackwell, 88, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Polly Clark. A lifelong resident of Hartsville, SC, Mrs. Blackwell graduated with honors from Hartsville High School in 1949. She married the late John W. "Buck" Blackwell Jr. in 1951, and they remained a devoted couple for over 45 years. They both retired from Sonoco Products Company in the 1980s after many years of loyal service. Mrs. Blackwell was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and will be remembered for her strong faith. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased in death by three siblings: W. I. Clark, Doris Johnson, and James Earl Clark. Survivors include her daughters, Pinky McInvaille (Scott) of Fayetteville, NC; Polly Vereen (Joey) of Conway, SC; grandchildren, Summer McInvaille, Ward McInvaille, and Isaac Dusenbury; a great-grandson, Charlie Dusenbury; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Blackwell was a kind, affectionate person known for her love of church and family. She was proud of her South Carolina heritage, and fondly remembered growing up on a farm in a close-knit community. She liked reading, writing, and playing cards with her friends. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling and attending Atlanta Braves baseball games. Mrs. Blackwell suffered from dementia in her final days, but never lost her beautiful spirit. Although she will be greatly missed, her loved ones take comfort in knowing she has found peace in the Lord. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 5, in Magnolia Cemetery at 2pm. Steve Winburn of Browns-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alzfdn.org). The family is grateful for all prayers and support during this time.
