Funeral services for Mrs. Joan Essig Rinehart Hart, 90, will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Ashley Cheek will officiate and the family will receive friends following the service. The service will be streamed live from the First Presbyterian Church of Hartsville's Facebook page. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Joan entered into a peaceful rest after a six month battle with cancer on Friday, May 21, 2021. Born in Elkhart, IN, she was a daughter of the late Frank W. Essig and Ona Ehret Essig. Joan was a member of the Hartsville Presbyterian Church, very active in the Sebring Presbyterian Church in Florida, and served as both Deacon and Elder in the Elkhart, IN First Presbyterian Church. She served as President of the Elkhart Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Red Hat Club of Sebring, and Elkhart Junior League. She enjoyed golf, bridge clubs, games with friends and family, and was a good cook whose house was always open. She was a caring and giving person, loved her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important in her life. She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Ganyard of Leesburg, VA, Beth Matthews (Rick) of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Heather Robbins (Tripp) of Lovettsville, VA, Erica Bernadas (Ian-Charles) of New Orleans, LA, Rachael Washington (Jeff) of Charleston, SC, Rebecca Blackmon (John) of Columbia, SC, Renee Saverance (Kyle) of Hartsville, SC; great-grandchildren, Samantha Robbins, Quade Robbins, Evelyn Backmon, Charlotte Blackman, Reid Saverance. She was predeceased by her husbands, Eugene R. Rinehart to whom she was married for 59 years, and Phil G. Hart who passed away 3 days short of their 6th anniversary.
