    Mr. James W. "Woody" Ray Jr.

    February 25, 1941 - October 1, 2021

    A funeral service for Mr. James W. "Woody" Ray, Jr., 80, who entered into rest on Friday, October 1, 2021, will be held at 3 o'clock on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Faith Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Gardner will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 3, 2021, in the Fellowship Hall of Faith Baptist Church. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Born in Lee County, SC, he was the son of the late James W. Ray, Sr., and Cleo Bell Ray. Woody was a carpenter who built and renovated many homes in Lee County. He was better known as "Naildriver." Woody was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed being in the woods, and coon hunted throughout his early years. He founded Little Egypt Hunt Club, where he enjoyed running his dogs and deer hunting. This was his greatest pleasure as from September 01 until January 01, he would be hunting. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Helen Warnke Ray of Camden, SC; four daughters, Darlene (Steve) Hawkins of Bishopville, SC, Lynn (Lavern) Grantham of Camden, SC, Mary (Pat) Smith of Camden, SC, Helena (Jason) Watkins of Bishopville, SC; four grandchildren, Trey (Janene) Grantham of Camden, SC, Erica Hughes of Chapin, SC, Tori (Kyle) Honeycutt of Lamar, SC, Daniel (Mandy) Glenn of Rock Hill, SC; six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Lonnie Ray of Lamar, SC; sisters, Catherine Gaul of Lamar, SC, Jean Transue of Easton, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Knight. Serving as pallbearers will be James Knight, Charles Knight, Ronnie Knight, Chip Knight, James Heyward Howell, and Pete Ray.
