A graveside service for Mr. James Hugh McElveen, 67, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2020 in the New Market United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gene Feagin will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Friends may visit with the family at the residence, 1036 E. Home Ave. Those wishing to pay their respects to James may come by the funeral home between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mr. McElveen entered into rest on Saturday, July 4, 2020. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late James Henry "Jim" and Juanita O'Neal McElveen. He served in the United States Army, as an Army Ranger, 2nd Platoon/Alpha Company 1/75th Airborne Ranger Battalion. He loved his family dearly and his grandchildren were his passion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle "Old Blue." He was also a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Surviving are his children, James Christopher (Mary) McElveen of Charleston, SC, Wendy McElveen (Shannon) Roscoe of Darlington, SC, Jennifer McElveen Galloway, of Darlington, SC, Jacob Henry McElveen of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Matthew Edgman, Rebecca Edgman, Desiré Grace Galloway, Joseph Galloway, Bethany Roscoe (Ryne) Johnson, Jeremiah Christopher Roscoe, Gracie Roscoe, Matthew Roscoe; great-grandchildren, Lane Johnson, Cheyanne Johnson; fiancé, Kaye Beckroge of Hartsville, SC; Kaye's children, Vee (Suzanne) Goldberg, Elizabeth (Joey) Dillon, Mary Catherine (Matt) Johnson; Kaye's grandchildren, Harper Dillon, Landon Johnson; brothers, Donald Leslie (Terri) McElveen, Charles Wayne (Hattie) McElveen, Roger Steven McElveen, Harold Adolph (Alice) McElveen. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Ben, Maggie, Little Big Man, Miss Priss, Dancer, HoneyBabe, and Little Girl.
