Mr. James Earl Curry

A funeral service with Military Honors for Mr. James Earl Curry, 73, who entered into rest on Friday, January 28, 2022, will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Lt. Col. (Ret.) Henry Grady Weaver III will deliver the eulogy. The burial will be held at 2 o'clock in Florence National Cemetery, 1001 Stockade Drive, Florence, SC 29506. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Darlington Veterans Memorial Park, c/o Darlington American Legion Post 13, 1752 Harry Byrd Highway, Darlington, SC 29532, or to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306. Mr. Curry was born in Gastonia, NC, on November 9, 1948, the son of the late Boyd Warren Curry and Nellie Groves Curry. He was married on August 11, 1972, to Mamie Lawton Segars. James worked as an agricultural pilot with his father and in construction. He enlisted into the U. S. Army on July 11, 1969; served in Vietnam from September 16, 1970, to May 10, 1971; and received an Honorable Discharge July 10, 1975. He was a beautifully talented artist and seeker of God’s wisdom and was a son, brother, husband, wonderfully wise father, caring, grandfather, and friend. Survived by his daughter, Kellie Lawton Curry Ricca, living in Vail Colorado with her husband, John Cordry Ricca; granddaughter, Marilyn Frances Ricca; grandson, Cordry James Ricca; granddaughter, Claire Elsas Ricca; son, James "Jay" Earl (Michelle Nye) Curry Jr., of Leadville, CO; grandson, Ethan Michael Curry; granddaughters, Elizabeth Mamie Curry, Sophia May Curry; brothers, Boyd Curry of Longwood, FL, David Curry of Hartsville, SC, and Gary Curry of Hartsville, SC.
