It is with profound sorrow that the Camp family announces the death of their beloved father, George Mills Camp, Sr., 92. Mr. Camp, the widower of Mrs. Florence Adele Weeks Camp, entered into rest on Thursday, February 3, 2022. A visitation will be held to celebrate his life from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in Hartsville, SC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o’clock on Monday, February 7, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Foley, AL, with Father Nicholas J. Napolitano officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the care and direction of Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Scotsman Club of Presbyterian College, 503 S. Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325, or the American Legion - Post 53, PO Box 1286, Hartsville, SC 29551. George was born on August 9, 1929, in Hartsville, SC. He was the son of the late William Hoyt Camp and the late Dorothy Hudgens Camp. He graduated from Hartsville High School and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War, where he received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and was awarded three Purple Hearts. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant and was stationed in Europe. He worked as a commercial fisherman in Bon Secours, AL, following his military career. After a few years, he returned home to Hartsville, where he owned and operated an Exxon Station and later George’s Auto. Surviving are his sons and daughter-in-law, Hugh W. (Twyla) Camp of Greenwood, SC, George M. Camp, Jr. of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, Garrett Camp, Kylie Camp, and Joshua Camp.
