    Mrs. Eunice Elizabeth "Betty" Griggs

    April 5, 1938 - March 1, 2022

    A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Eunice Elizabeth "Betty" Griggs, 83, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, in the Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. George Howle, The Rev. Danny Holley, and The Rev. Ben McLaughlin will officiate with burial to follow in Lamar Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Griggs, the widow of Rev. Robert "Ed" Griggs, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022. Born in Darlington County, SC she was a daughter of the late Eugene Otis Reynolds and the late Thamia Mae Howell Reynolds. Betty was a graduate of Lamar High School. She worked for Hartsville Manufacturing Company for 27 years and then retired from Wal-Mart. She was a lifelong member of Middendorf Baptist Church where she served alongside her husband, Rev. Griggs for 27 years. She dedicated herself to every position offered including teaching Sunday School in the Nursery, Beginner, Primary, Junior, and Youth classes. She was the leader for Mission Friends, GA's, and Acteens. She was also the WMU Director and the church pianist for many years. She and Ed also served as interims for many other Baptist Churches in the Chesterfield Association. For the past few years she attended Lake Swamp Baptist Church. She was a Godly woman that loved and prayed for all. Surviving are her sister, Eula Jean (Billy) Taylor; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Reynolds, Nancy Reynolds, Julia Reynolds, Bernice Reynolds; special niece and nephew, Angela and Karl Huneycutt; great nephew, Taylor Huneycutt; great-nieces, Madelyn Huneycutt, Kathryn Huneycutt, numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J. F. Reynolds, David Reynolds, Vivien Reynolds, Foster Lee Reynolds, Lafaye Reynolds; sister, Rachel Jones. Memorials may be made in her honor to Middendorf Baptist Church, 2202 Middendorf Church Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory are caring for the family.
