    Mrs. Edith Henderson Berkebile

    September 16, 1927 - February 26, 2022

    A graveside service for Edith Henderson Berkebile, the wife of the late Charles Wade Berkebile, will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551. Mrs. Berkebile entered into rest on Saturday, February 26, 2022. A native of Florence, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Addie Carter Henderson. She graduated from Florence State Teachers College, now the University of North Alabama. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Tau Delta. She was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and was a recipient of the Turris Fidelis Award, the highest honor bestowed by the college upon two graduating seniors at each commencement. She was a member of McRae Road Church of Christ in Camden, SC, and a homemaker for the majority of her adult life. She is survived by her son, Wade Henderson Berkebile of Irmo, SC; daughter, Gayle Collins of New Bern, NC; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Morris Henderson; sister, Mildred Henderson Cunningham; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Berkebile; brothers-in-law, Arthur Cunningham III, Evan Berkebile, Bob Berkebile; son-in-law, Wayne Collins.
