A funeral service for Mrs. Doris Jane Hoffman, 83, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 in the Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward Herlong will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Front Porch, 53 Joe Dority Rd., Bishopville, SC 29010 or to Abba's House Maternity Home, 602 Fayetteville Ave., Bennettsville, SC 29512. Mrs. Hoffman entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Born in Bladen County, NC, on May 31, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Henry O. Cain and the late Ora Mae Blackman Cain. Mrs. Hoffman was a faithful servant at Elim United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of the D. Oates Circle and served on the church board. She was a pillar in the Oates Community. She was employed at James Rivers Corporation in Darlington for over 30 years. Mrs. Hoffman lived for her Lord, family, and friends. She loved spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and was the gossip central of the Oates Community. She spent her mornings drinking coffee and checking on her loved ones. She lived to help and love others, while not expecting nor wanting anything in return. She was one of a kind and simply amazing. She loved to bake her famous pound cakes that would melt in your mouth and would spoil her son-in-law, Chris, with her amazing chocolate pies. She loved her days on the town with her daughter. She was featured in She Magazine in May 2014, along with her daughter, in recognition of her motherly love. Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Smallwood (Chris); grandchildren, Richard Lane Oliver (Kymberly), Joshua Harley Oliver (Kaley Amerson), Hunter Alston Smallwood(Bethany Roscoe), Chandler Grant Smallwood, Ryleigh Smallwood, Colton Smallwood; great-grandchildren, Lily Jane Oliver, Joshua Tuff Oliver; brother, Thomas Cain of Thomasville, NC; sister, Shirley Ann Nutter; special honorary children; Robin Lee, Susan Woning, Michelle Woning, John Byrd, Tamicia M. Washington, Bobby Oliver (Tracy). She was preceded in death by her honorary parents, Roy and Ruth Dority; sisters,Liz Huggins, Janie McClung, Ruby Marshall, Mary Frances Cain Bryant, Margorie Cain Barnhill. Pallbearers will be Christopher Carl Smallwood, Richard Lane Oliver, Joshua Harley Oliver, Bobby Franklin Oliver, Gregory Todd Nutter, Michael Bray, John Byrd.
