Mrs. Dora Ellen Byrd

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Ellen Turnage Byrd, 85, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31st, 2022 at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Ken Hughes will officiate with burial to follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Darlington County Humane Society, PO Box 1655, Hartsville, S.C. 29551. Mrs. Byrd entered into rest on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Sydney L. "Roy" Turnage and the late Gertrude Gibson Turnage. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. She operated a childcare center from her home for 29 years and was affectionately known as "Mama Byrd." She loved her family dearly and loved her cats. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Leslie P. "Judge" Byrd of Hartsville, SC; children, Perry (Jana) Byrd of Graniteville, SC, Angela (Ken) Elmore of Mooresville, NC, Allison (Johnny) Byrd of Hartsville, SC, Garrett Byrd of Dillon, SC; sister, Sydney Powell; grandchildren, Ashley Usher, Corey Byrd, Daniel Byrd, David Byrd, William Byrd, Reavis Byrd; great-grandchildren, Nicole Harrell, Jema Byrd, Coyt Byrd, Beckham Byrd; a very dear and special friend who was like a sister, Linda Chilton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Byrd.
