Mr. Charles W. Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. LaVonde Mobley Smith announces the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Charles W. Smith, 73. Mr. Smith entered into rest on Friday, February 18th, 2022. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late John Wesley Smith and the late Beler Mae Wallace Smith. He was a member of Belin United Methodist Church of Murrells Inlet. Charles enjoyed being actively involved in the Rollie Hanna Breakfast at the church and various other ministries and events. He served in the United States Army. He worked for Sara Lee Hosiery for over 30 years and afterward started his own cleaning business. He also worked for Mr. Joe Lavender for many years, thus forming a deep friendship with Joe. In his younger years, Charles was involved in many youth sports in the Hartsville area, which included coaching little league baseball at the Hartsville Northern League. He was the director for the Hartsville Red Fox Bass Tournament for many years. He loved making friends and would do anything he could to help others. He will be missed immensely. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, LaVonde Mobley Smith of Murrells Inlet, SC; son, Wes (Amber) Smith of Heath Springs, SC; grandchildren, Alicia Huffman, Skylar Huffman, Nick Smith, Marissa Smith, all of Heath Springs, SC; sisters, Jeanette Smith Winburn of Hartsville, SC, Patricia Smith (Roy) Flowers of Hartsville, SC; sister-in-law, Hattie Smith; beloved dog, Rosie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James A. (Betty) Smith, John Henry Smith, Jennings L. Smith; sister, Margaret Smith (Cecil) Morrell; his beloved dog, Caroline. A memorial drop-in will be held on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022 at Belin United Methodist Church, Murrells Inlet beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Hartsville at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24th, 2022 in the Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home with his nephews, Steve Winburn and B.J. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Belin United Methodist Church, PO Box 528, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 or to a charity of choice. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory are caring for the family.
