Carl Major Thomas,101, entered into rest on Monday, February 7, 2022. A private graveside service for Major will be held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetary, Lydia, SC on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Major was born in Lee County, SC on February 17, 1920, the son of the late Carl and Fleetwood Dubose Thomas. He graduated from Lydia High School and attended Wake Forest College. Major was a farmer and Fertilizer Inspector for over 30 years for Clemson University. He was married to Frances Register Thomas and they had three children. Major loved to fish, hunt, grow tomatoes and collards, and play cards with his buddies. He was a natural athlete and played baseball in the Palmetto League in the 1940s. The Hartsville Team was sponsored by Sonoco. He is survived by his son, Terry Thomas (Mary) of Lydia, SC; grandsons, Greg Brown (Cherri) of Lydia, SC; Carl McGirt (Jennifer) of Pelham, AL; granddaughters, Michelle McGirt of Pensacola, FL, Erin Jackson (Jared) of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren, Kelsy Defee of Bishopville, SC, Allyssa McGirt of Tuscaloosa, AL, Cole Brown of Lydia, SC, Thomas Jackson of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Bunny Thomas of Florence, SC; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Thomas; brother, Timmons Thomas; daughters, Lynn Brown and Susan McGirt. The family of Carl Major Thomas would like to thank the caregivers that helped with his care while at home, and the staff of the Morrell Nursing Center facility of Hartsville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, P.O. Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079.
