Mr. Woodrow Leslie Outlaw

It is with deep sorrow that Brad and Curtiss Outlaw announce the death of their father Woodrow Leslie Outlaw. Woodrow went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 20, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins are caring for the family. Woodrow was born on March 15, 1943, in Darlington, SC, to Mamie Blackmon and Leslie Outlaw. He was married to the love of his life, Jean Hodges Outlaw, for 57 years. He was an amazing son, brother, husband, daddy, grandaddy, great-grandaddy, and friend to all. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Morton Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. Woodrow retired from Sonoco after 43 years of service. He was a hard worker and always loyal to Sonoco. He was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club. Woodrow loved his family dearly. He was a good husband and father. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished his great-grandchildren, John and Josey. Whenever his sons, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren walked into the room, he always broke out with a huge smile. Woodrow was an awesome caregiver. He was always there to give a ride to school, ball games, doctor’s appointments, or whatever. He carried many people to appointments just because he cared. Woodrow loved the Hartsville Red Foxes. He was an avid fan, rarely missing a game until his health declined; even then, his daughter-in-law Sheila and friends Diane and Todd Purvis would carry him in his wheelchair to cheer on the Foxes. After his retirement, Woodrow enjoyed traveling across the country on Senior Citizen Bus Trips and his great personality endeared him to many across the United States. Woodrow loved his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Morton Presbyterian Church. Even after he was no longer able to attend, he continued to worry about the church wanting to make sure everything was taken care of. Woodrow is survived by two sons, Brad (Sheila) Outlaw and Curtiss (Shannon) Outlaw; four grandchildren, Sydney (Matt) Coley, Jamie (Allyson) Outlaw, Zachary (Maisey) Outlaw, and Meridith Outlaw (Jamie Tamburino); two great-grandchildren, John and Josey Coley; a special friend whom he loved like a son, David Gray, and a special sister-in-law, Teresa Hodges; sisters, Bette (Gene) King, Ginny Hunt, and sister-in-law, Vicki Outlaw; many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jean Hodges Outlaw; brothers Perry and Mark; his mother and father-in-law, James and Jewel Hodges; and sisters-in-law, Faye and Sue Hodges. The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to those who helped care for Woodrow, especially his daughter-in-law Sheila and friend David Gray, the staff at Fresenius Dialysis, the McCoy Nursing Home, Staff of Carolina Pines, McLeod Hospice House, and the family and friends in the community who helped to care for him providing meals, comfort, visits and rides to dialysis and many doctor’s appointments. Flowers are welcome, but memorials can also be made to Morton Presbyterian Church, 1068 Morton Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550.
