Mrs. Wilhelmina Ivey Leach

It is with deep sorrow that the Leach family announces the death of their beloved mother, Wilhelmina Ivey Leach, 95. Mrs. Leach, the widow of John D. Leach, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Phillips will officiate with entombment to follow in The Westview Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Saturday at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in her honor to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 302 Dunlap Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550. In consideration of other guests and those who are at a higher risk, the family kindly asks for everyone to observe Covid protocols where necessary. Mrs. Leach was born on June 5, 1927, in Williamsburg County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Willie Ander Ivey and Minnie Elizabeth Britton Ivey. She was a graduate of Hemingway High School and Winthrop College and, upon graduating, taught school as a Home Economics teacher in the Dillon, Georgetown, Sumter, and Darlington County School Districts. She later became certified and taught the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She retired from Sumter School District #2 in 1987. Mrs. Leach was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church, Adult Fellowship Class, Hallie Byrd Circle, and was a member of P.A.L.S. and served on the P.A.L.S. Board of Directors. She was a long-time member of the Hartsville Civinette Club, which became the Turnage Civitan Club in May of 1984, and was a member of the Hartsville Civitan Club. She was an active member of the Hartsville YMCA since its conception. She served as a Volunteer at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center from March 2010 until Friday, July 22, 2022. She is survived by her daughters, Joan L. (David) Alexander of Florence, SC, Eve L. (Ray) Lay of Walhalla, SC, Julie L. (Tim) Watkins of Hartsville, SC; son, Jonathan D. (Donna) Leach of Sumter, SC; brother, Wilbur D. (Barbara) Ivey of Hemingway, SC; grandchildren, Meredith A. (Matt) Byrd of Hartsville, SC, Candace A. (Joe) Ulakey of Charlotte, NC, Nick R. Watkins of Hartsville, SC, Jacob S. Watkins of Hartsville, SC, Lauren L. (Russ) Evans of Lynchburg, SC, Megan L. (Jake) Sandeson of Rembert, SC; great-grandson, Xander Ulakey of Charlotte, NC. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Libby I. (Gene) Zolman of Warsaw, Indiana, Louise I. (Kevin) Moore of Atlanta, GA, Emily I. (Ed) Harris of Hemingway, SC Frances I. (Elbert) Player of Lake City, SC.
