Mr. Wesley W. Young V

Wesley Washington Young, V, 71, died October 24, 2012. Born in Henderson, North Carolina, he was the son of late Wesley W. Young, IV and Alice Whitmore Young. Mr. Young retired as manager from Roses in 2006 after 37 years of service. Mr. Young graduated from Henderson High School in 1959 and attended the University of North Carolina where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After finishing a tour of duty with the United States Marine Corp, he graduated from Campbell University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While in Hartsville Young was very active in various civic and community activities. He was Chairman of the Hartsville Crime Stoppers in which he helped organize, Chairman of the Hartsville Merchants in Action, and President of the Hartsville Mall Merchants Association. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce and was Chairman of the Byerly Hospital Board of Trustees. Mr. Young is a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, and was also a member of Kelleytown Baptist Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He was an avid NASCAR fan, North Carolina Tar Heels fan, and Washington Redskins fan. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church at 2:00 p.m. with Father Michael Ridgill, Father Michael Malone, Reverend Rod Elliott, and Reverend Lin Kirkman officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Surviving is the mother of his children, Gail M. Young of Hartsville. Son, Wesley W. (Bobo) Young VI of Hartsville, daughter and son-in-law Leslie and Trent Doughty, and grandson Tate Doughty all of Columbia, sister-in-law Mary M. Cassady, and nieces Kelley, Whitney, and Kirby Cassady all of Hartsville. Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the Hartsville Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Kelleytown Baptist Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday October 26, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The family would like to thank McLeod Radiation & Oncology, McLeod Hospice, Dr. Rob Elder, Dr. Rajesh Bajaj, caregiver, Ms. Betty McRaven , and close friends and neighbors Gene Hall and Chester Morris. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home will be officiating arrangements.
