Mr. Wayne Lewis

Graveside services for Mr. Wayne Lewis, 80, who died peacefully on May 20, 2015, will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, May 23, 2015 in Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Earl Wayne Lewis, admired husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born and raised in Robeson County, NC, a son of the late Earl Doss Lewis and Kathleen Williams Lewis. He was the youngest of three sons and grew up learning the value of hard work from his father, a tobacco farmer. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in both France and Germany during the Korean Conflict. After returning from his tour of duty, he settled down with his high school sweetheart, Dell. Their lifelong marriage was blessed with two daughters that brought him great joy. In order to better provide for his family, he began an 18 year career at Sonoco as a Truck Driver. An entrepreneur, he then established his own trucking business, which he managed for over 10 years. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing and boating with his grandchildren. He emphasized to them the importance of education, diligence, and being respectful and polite. Surviving are his daughters, Tona (David) Tedder of Hartsville, SC, Sherry Melton of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Alexis Tedder (Jonathan) Winburn, Deidre Tedder, Jackie Wade Melton, Jacob Wayne (Alison) Melton, Bryon Drake (Leslie) Melton; great-grandchildren, Nathan Winburn, Natalie Winburn, Lily Melton, Emalyn Melton, Clayton Melton, Josie Melton, Avery Melton, Hailee Melton, Baylee Melton. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dell Graham; his brothers Hal Lewis and Lavonde Lewis; and his son-in-law Jackie Melton. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Kenneth Evans, the staff at Carolina Family Practice, Jeanine Edwards, Nicole Wright, and Ricky Smith for the love and extraordinary care they provided Mr. Lewis without fail.
