It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Gail Morrison Grainger announces the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Wayne Maurice Grainger, 84. Mr. Grainger entered into rest on Thursday, June 27, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11o'clock on Monday, July 1, 2024, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Chuck Hawkins will officiate with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends and family who plan to attend the service are encouraged to wear their favorite tropical attire in keeping with Wayne's personal style. Memorials may be made in his honor to: First Southern Methodist Church, 820 Lakeview Boulevard, Hartsville, SC 29550. Mr. Grainger was born on May 12, 1940, in Nichols, SC. He was the son of the late Robert James Grainger and Osroe Fowler Grainger. Wayne was raised in Myrtle Beach, and as early as seven-years-old, he worked on Ocean Boulevard. From delivering newspapers to running the grill at Sloppy Joes, he held a variety of jobs. On May 17, 1957, while working at the Pavilion, he met the love of his life, Miss Gail Morrison from Hartsville, SC. That night, they walked on the beach and shagged at the Pavilion. Wayne knew this girl from Hartsville was the one he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. Wayne and Gail married on June 29, 1963. During their 61 married years, they raised two children who made him incredibly proud. After a 25 year career at DuPont, he retired in 1991. During retirement, he enjoyed family time at Oak Island, NC. He and Gail enjoyed 21 cruise vacations and weeks spent at Ocean Drive for SOS. If you asked Wayne how he felt about his life or even if you didn't ask, he would look you in the eye and say, "I couldn't have asked for a better life." He is survived by his loving wife, Ada Gail Morrison Grainger of Hartsville, SC; son, Wayne M. (Susan) Grainger, II of Miamisburg, OH; and daughter, Frances Gail Grainger (Shawn) Keller of Murrells Inlet, SC; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Donna Atkinson of McColl; sister-in-law, Carla Grainger Doak of Oak Island, NC; brother-in-law, Robert Shirley of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Jacob Andrew Grainger of Miamisburg, OH, Katherine Taylor Grainger of Miamisburg, OH; a very special nephew, Larry L (Patsy) Boyd of Columbia, SC; two granddogs, Blu and Mimi; and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Keith Grainger of Oak Island, NC; sisters, Mildred Grainger (Robert) Boyd Bourne of Charleston, SC and Cecilia Grainger Shirley of Myrtle Beach, SC.
