It is with deep sorrow that the Floyd family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Voncile Denton Floyd, 81. Mrs. Floyd, the widow of Cecil Larry Floyd, Sr., entered into rest on Friday, February 28, 2025. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 3 o'clock on Sunday, March 2, 2025, in Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Bruce Watford will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Mrs. Floyd was born on August 23, 1943, in Bishopville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Herman Baum Denton and the late Iva Voncile Denton Alexander. Voncile Floyd, a woman whose heart was as big as her sense of humor, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who lived her life with unwavering love, feistiness, and selflessness. Born with a spirit that could brighten any room, Voncile had a gift for making others laugh. She was known for her quick wit, strong will, and the way she loved without limits. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, cherishing every moment with her four children, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She found happiness in the simple things—playing cards with loved ones, preparing home-cooked meals, and, most importantly, finding peace in her quiet moments with Jesus. Her faith was her foundation, and through her, many learned the power of kindness, resilience, and unconditional love. Voncile’s legacy is one of laughter, warmth, and devotion to family. Though she is no longer physically with us, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to shine through the lives she touched. She is survived by her sons, Cecil Larry Floyd, Jr., and Chad Everett Floyd (Angie); daughters, Denise Dunlap (Rick) and Babs Chewning (Ricky); brother Johnny C. Alexander (Anita); sister, Dorothy Alexander (Dennis); grandchildren, Michael Brock Ludy (Jill), Brittany Blythe (Josh), Brooke Bradshaw (Josh), and Gavin Everett Floyd; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Larry Floyd, Sr., and her sister, Sylvia D. Davis
