Vienna Register

Vienna White Crowley Register, 96, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 in McLeod Hospice House of Florence, SC. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at North Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Ladell Humphries and the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday, June 1, 2009 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Betty June and W. C. Gandy, 716 Mont Clare Rd., Darlington. Memorials may be made to North Hartsville Baptist Church, 1117 Patrick Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550. Mrs. Register was born in Mt.Croghan, NC, a daughter of the late Clifford Asbury White and Nezzie Russell White McKinnon. She was a 1930 graduate of Zoar High School in Chesterfield, SC. “Miss Vienna” as many called her and her first husband owned and operated Crowley’s Grocery on Ousleydale Road in Hartsville for many years. She was a very talented seamstress, and loving mother and grandmother. She devoted much of her time to the Lord’s work at the First Baptist Church in Hartsville and then was a charter member of North Hartsville Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Youth Director for 41 years, Church Clerk for 37 years, a member of the choir, and a leader of the Hattie Gardner Circle until 2003. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #91. She lived the last five years of her life at Bethea Baptist Home in Darlington, SC. She was predeceased by her first husband, Junius B. Crowley, who died in 1972. Surviving are her daughter, Betty June (W.C.) Gandy, Jr. of Darlington; grandchildren, Pamela June (Albert) Hay of Clemson and Craig (Phyllis) Gandy of Darlington; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hay of Clemson and Ashley Gandy of Darlington. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Bennie J. Register, who died in 1990. Surviving are her stepdaughters, Brenda (William) Gantt of Greenville, Myra (Jack) Jaynes of Lexington, and Lynn (Dave) Dyenson of Simpsonville; step grandchildren, Joel (Anne) Andrews of Sheldon, Kevin (Kim)Andrews of Simpsonville, and Lindsey (John) Jefferson of Greenville; step great-grandchildren, Katie Andrews of Sheldon, Ashley and Misty Andrews of Simpsonville, and Emily, Ansley, and Bailey Jefferson of Greenville. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John and Ken White; sisters, Gertrude Dawkins, Iris Hunt, Mary Evelyn Smith, and Juanita White.
