Mr. Tony Ray Smith

It is with deep sorrow that the Smith family announces the death of Mr. Tony Ray Smith, 65. Mr. Smith entered into rest on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3:00 p.m on Friday, December 16, 2022 at New Life Worship Center, Oates, SC. The Rev. Will Camp and The Rev. Ryver Cook will officiate with burial to follow in Byrd Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Smith was born in Florence, SC. he was a son of Anna Lorine Conyers Smith and Henry Ray Smith. Tony was an Army Brat until he graduated from Spartanburg High School of Spartanburg, SC. He attended Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, TN. He then worked for several auto body shops and did construction work for a while. In 1987, he began working as a Firefighter/Driver/Mechanic for Florence City Fire Department until he retired in 2012 after 25 years of service. He volunteered at the Timmonsville Fire Station. He was a member of "The Fire House Gang" of the Florence County Fire Department as a clown showing Fire Prevention going all over the state. He was a member of the "Wind and Fire" Motorcycle Club. He attended New Life Worship Center in Oates, SC. Tony recently rededicated his life to the Lord and is now spending eternity in Heaven. He enjoyed putting together transportation models, riding his motorcycle, singing and playing many different instruments, fishing and designing and building his own creations. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 14 years, Laura Smith of Lydia, SC; daughter, Lynda Alexander (Tommy) of Newnan, GA. step-daughter, Regina Henderson of Lydia, SC; step-son, James Henderson (Konstantina Pikoula) of Oates, SC; siblings, Wanda Montgomery (Wesley) of Chesnee, SC, Sue Kelchner (Arty) of Lydia, SC, Michael Smith (Wanda) of Lydia, SC; 3 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great granddaughter; 7 nieces and nephews, 6 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Willie Ray Smith.
