It is with deep sorrow that the Granger family announces the death of Mrs. Shirley McDougald Granger, 88, of Hartsville, SC. Mrs. Granger, the widow of Coley (Buddy) L. Granger, passed away peacefully at McLeod Hospice House in Florence June 19, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 3 o'clock on Monday, June 23, 2025 at The Gathering Place, formerly know as The First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev.Timothy Walden and Mr. Nick Hewitt will officiate, with burial to follow in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm on June 23, 2025 at the church. Mrs. Granger was born on Sunday, July 26, 1936, in Darlington County, SC. She is the daughter of the late Arthur McDougald and the late Blanche Walters McDougald of Lydia,SC. Mrs. Shirley loved the Lord and was a faithful member of The First Church of the Nazerene for over 50 years and was a Sunday School teacher to 3rd and 4th graders for many years. Mrs. Granger retired from the Darlington County School District after 23 years of service. Mrs. Granger was a loving mother to her daughter Tammy and a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren; Justin, Kara and Paige. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her flower gardens, baking, taking vacations, and spending time with her husband of 54 years Buddy, fishing in Santee, and her fur baby Lucky. Mrs. Shirley had an unconditional love that was contagious to all that knew her and a heart as big as the moon. When she smiled that beautiful smile of hers it would touch your heart and she always opened her loving arms giving hugs out, whether you needed it or not because she said everybody needs a hug. Her impact of compassion, strong faith, love for her God, and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed and her memory will never be forgotten to all who knew her. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Tammy (Bryan) Evans of LakeCity, SC; grandchildren, Justin (Libby) Boswell of Darlington, SC, Kara (Garrett) Hatchitt of Lake City, SC Paige (Mason) Evans of Johnsonville. SC; one brother, Liston McDougald of Hartsville, SC, two sister in laws, Carolyn Hall and Essie Sellers both of Hartsville, SC; many nieces and nephews and her fur baby, Lucky. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coley L. Granger; brothers, Daniel McDougald, Leslie McDougald, Lenzie McDougald, Leonard McDougald, Minor McDougald; sisters, Beatrice McDougald Nina Curry.
