Graveside services for Peter Collin Coggeshall, Sr., 90, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2006 at Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550, or to the charity of one's choice. Mr. Coggeshall, widower of Rosanne Howard Coggeshall, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006. Born in Darlington, SC, he was the second son of the late Robert W. and Beulah Walden Coggeshall. He was a 1936 graduate, Magna Cum Laude, of the University of South Carolina and earned an MBA, with distinction, from Harvard University in 1938, and was a member of the Research Staff at Harvard Business School after graduation. He was employed by Sonoco products Company for 49 years and was a on the Board of Directors, retiring in 1988 as a senior Executive Vice President. He was an Eagle Scout, and served for 26 months in World War II in the United States Army. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities at U.S.C., and the Century Club at H.B.S, and held an honorary D.H.L. degree from Coker College, of which he was a trustee. He was a past president of Carolina-Virginia Purchasing Executives Association, and a director of the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Board of Visitors of Davidson College. In Hartsville he was active in several civil affairs having served as Chairman of the Board of Byerly Hospital, trustee of Hartsville Memorial Library, Director of Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, the first president of Hartsville United Fund, and first chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and was Citizen of the Year in 1966. He was a past president of Hartsville Rotary Club, and served more than 25 years as a trustee of Mcleod Regional Hospital. He was a past member of the Centurion Club in Columbia, SC, The Saint David's Society, and the Damon Gun Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hartsville, and had served as both a Deacon and an Elder there. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Peter Collin and Carol Harvey Coggeshall, Jr. of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Rosanne Howard Coggeshall of Pittsboro, NC; grandson, Collin Drum and Melissa Hayes Coggeshall of Hartsville, SC; great-grandson, Peter Hayes Coggeshall of Hartsville, SC. www.bpafuneralhome.com
