Mr. Oliver Kimory Stanley

It is with deep sorrow that the Stanley family announces the death of Mr. Oliver Stanley, 76. Mr. Stanley entered into rest on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 1 o'clock on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Kelleytown Baptist Church, with The Rev. Lin Kirkman and The Rev. Dr. Michael Madaris officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service. His joy, wit, and kindness drew people to him, and others walked away happier for having been with him. He saw the good in everyone. Being raised in a strong, loving family gave him good roots, an ever-positive outlook, and a terrific sense of humor. Oliver's heart was shaped by learning scripture in Sunday School and hearing the Word from Dr. Davis Sanders, beloved pastor of First Baptist Church. And little did he know, he was growing up in church with his future bride, Stephanie, his devoted wife of over 53 years. Where you saw one, you saw the other, and they always remained together. Growing up around Prestwood Lake with his sweet, big brother Billy and great childhood friends helped develop his sense of adventure and love for the outdoors. His fascination with learning began as a child, as he loved to read encyclopedias. Getting a great education in Hartsville schools prepared him well for college at Wofford. He would major in Biology and Chemistry and found time to socialize with his Pi Kappa Alpha brothers, forging friendships that lasted over 50 years. Oliver used his scientific mind in his career as an Environmental Manager for General Electric, Siemens, Cargill, and Sonoco. In retirement, Oliver and Stephanie enjoyed traveling around the country, seeing their married children and their families grow. He adored his family and was known affectionately to his ten grandchildren as "Poppy." He lit up with them, and they with him. Oliver and Stephanie lost their dear first baby, Ashley, which left a wound healed, knowing she was in Heaven. He faced health challenges over the last three years with uncommon perseverance, strength, and grace, which only the Lord Jesus could supply. His race was won. He would want you to walk with Christ and live fully. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; his three children, Christy (Brad), Catherine (Rob), and Oliver Jr. (Jonie); ten grandchildren: Alden (Siera), Ashley, Andrew, Ethan, Kimory, Michael, James, Lydia, Anne Elizabeth and Oliver. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley E. Stanley; his parents, Eleanor O. Stanley and William T. Stanley; and his brother, William T. Stanley II. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude for the loving care given by Dr. Mac Chapman, Mrs. Patricia McCall, Mr. Rickey Smith, the staff of McLeod Hospital, and the staff of Carolina Pines Hospital.
