It is with deep sorrow that Mr. Larry Dean Cassidy and his family announce the death of his beloved wife, Mrs. O'Neal Casper Cassidy, 72. Mrs. Cassidy entered into rest on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. O'Neal was raised in Branchville, VA surrounded by lots of family. She was raised in the church and loved GA's and Acteens. She started helping with the children early in her life. When John and Janice O'Cain came to Branchville, they truly changed her life. They would help convince her to leave VA and travel to SC for college at the Baptist College of Charleston. They would later introduce her to the love of her life, Larry. They would marry in Darlington in 1971 and raise their children there. She made sure that not only were her girls in church but all the kids in the area had a ride and help getting there, too. She taught many Sunday school classes, worked in VBS, helped with the nursery, and was the youth director with Larry by her side. She played church softball with Larry as her coach for many years. She continued to show God's love by opening her home to several children while their parents were working. She treated them all as her own and loved them dearly. She wrote songs, sang, and played her guitar for the Lord for as long as her hands would let her. Her family could always find her because she whistled every breath she took. O'Neal was never the 'girlie' type. She never wore makeup and very little jewelry other than her wedding ring. She could build and make anything she put her mind to doing. Her Dad and Larry were always there to guide her if needed, but she always found a way. She loved her flowers and bird feeders and was at home in the outdoors. She would find any excuse to go to the Isle of Palms and walk the beach. She always had a bucket to bring home the shells she would find. She instilled in all her girls her love of animals. She would rescue and bring home any animal that needed her. Larry would roll his eyes, but she knew he couldn't tell her no. She passed many of her favorite things and places she loved down to her granddaughter, Cassidy. Cassidy was the apple of her eye, and she would move heaven and earth to give her the stars. She loved teaching her about Jesus, flowers, chickens, and that vanilla was the ONLY flavor of ice cream you ever need in life. O'Neal was preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Penelope Casper, and her daughter, Jennifer Cassidy. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Cassidy; her daughters, Lori Reed, and Rebekah Cassidy; her Granddaughter, Cassidy Reed; her brothers, Wayne Casper and Lin Casper; many nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-love, Kayleigh Crowley Johnson.
