Ms. Nancy Payne Dunn

It is with deep sorrow that Ms. Marla Dunn Stout announces the death of her beloved mother, Ms. Nancy Payne Dunn, 78. Ms. Dunn entered into rest on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. The family will conduct a memorial service to honor her life at 2 o'clock on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Wesley United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Tony Adams officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Hartsville Memorial Library, The Darlington County Humane Society, or the charity of your choosing. Nancy was born in Nashville on February 10, 1945, the daughter of Ralph and Dorothy Payne. She grew up in the Salem community of Clarksville, TN. She attended Montgomery Central High School, where she played basketball. She met Martin Dunn on the school bus, and she declared him to be her future husband. They married in 1963 and attended Austin Peay State University together. Nancy and Martin moved to Kentucky and later Ohio. They had three children: Matthew, Jason, and Marla. In 1979, they settled in Hartsville, South Carolina. Nancy started as an aide at the Little Red School House. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from Coker College and her Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina. She taught school at Carolina Elementary and McBee High School, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year. After her husband’s death, Nancy met her long-time partner, Randy Britt, at a line dancing class. They’ve loved and supported one another ever since. Nancy enjoyed time with her family and friends. She was especially known for her warm personality, kindness, generosity, humor, and quick wit. Nancy is survived by Randy Britt, his son Jamie Britt (Ellen), and his grandchildren Ian Britt, Eli Britt, Jaden Britt, and Grayson Britt; daughter Marla Dunn Stout and grandson Turner Roman Stout; and sisters Debbie Elrod and Margaret Ann Nolen; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Martin T. Dunn, sons Matthew Dunn and Jason Dunn, sister Patricia Bierman, and brothers Johnny Payne and Jimmy Payne.
