Mr. Murray Lee Barfield

It is with deep sorrow that the Barfield family announces the death of Mr. Murray "Lee" Barfield, 52. Mr. Barfield entered into rest on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Kelleytown Baptist Church, with The Rev. Daniel Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Murray “Lee” Barfield was born on February 6, 1973, and from the start, he lived life with grit, heart, and a willingness to take on any challenge. A true jack-of-all-trades, there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix, figure out, or build with his own two hands. He was the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone—family, friend, or stranger alike. Lee had a deep love for motorcycles and the open road, especially when it led him to the mountains. The peace he found there was something he held close to his heart. More than anything, Lee loved his family. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people he loved most—his wife, children, and especially his grandbabies, who lit up his world. Lee is survived by his wife, Melisa Barfield; his stepfather, George Blackwell; his children, Dylan (Haylee) Barfield, Britni Barfield (Jonah Nye), Rainey White, Riley Bryant, and Haley Bryant; his grandchildren, Larken and Langlee Barfield; his sisters, Nira Gainey and Vicky (Tim) Moore; his nieces, Brooke (Justin) Edwards, Bailee Gainey, Taylor (Alex) Poovey, and Carlee Moore and life-long friends Mike Thompson and Billy Brooks. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy Blackwell and James and Nira Barfield, and his brother-in-law, Huey Gainey. He had a unique way of making people feel safe, loved, and supported, even during his own hardest days. His battle with cancer was fought with courage, grace, and strength that inspired everyone around him. Even in pain, he kept his sense of humor, his loyalty, and his love for others. Lee didn’t just leave behind memories—he left behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unconditional love. His life was a testament to what it means to be selfless, strong, and devoted. Though he is no longer physically with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts and hands of those who loved him.
