It is with deep sorrow that the Dean family announces the death of their beloved mother, Martha Kay Ott Dean, 82. Mrs. Dean, the widow of Tommie Frederick Dean, Sr., entered into rest on Friday, October 21, 2022. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral Service to honor her life will be held at 12 o'clock on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Walters will officiate, with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 pm on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in the Fellowship Hall of West Hartsville Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550, or the Alzheimer's Association of South Carolina, Attn: SC Gift Processing, 4600 Park Rd, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209. Born in Graniteville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Thurmond Ott, Sr., and the late Mary Monteen Smith Ott. She served for many years as the plant accountant for Royster-Clark before retiring, but she was best known as a great listener and counselor to anyone who needed her. She enjoyed preparing food and feeding others, and her culinary talents will be missed. She had an immense love for her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was an avid supporter of anything involving her family. Above all, she was strong in her faith and was an encouragement and an example to so many. The family wishes to convey their deepest thanks for the love, support, caring, and friendship from her Willis Drive neighbors, her Church Family, and her friends from their weekly Card Club. She is survived by her loving children, Freddie (Terri) Dean, Jr. of Monroe, NC, Mitch (Debbie) Dean of Myrtle Beach, SC, Vicki (David) Whitaker of Bamberg, SC; grandchildren, Katie Dean of Salisbury, NC, Daniel Dean of Monroe, NC, Rachel (Tyler) Pittman of Lexington, SC, Maegan (Jordan) Fink of Hartsville, SC, Seth Dean of Hartsville, SC, Emily-Ann Whitaker of Bamberg, SC, Dawson Whitaker of Bamberg, SC, Zachary Whitaker of Bamberg, SC, and Ava-Marie Whitaker of Bamberg, SC; great-grandchildren, Ollie Pittman, Charles Fink, and Bennett Fink; sister-In-Law, Brenda Ott and her daughters, Karen (Barry) Stewart, and Kelly (Wayne) Perkins, all of Hartsville, SC; brothers-in-law, The Rev. Dewey L. Dean of Florence, SC, and Jerald W. Dean of Hartsville, SC. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Russell Marvin Dean; brother, Marvin Thurmond "Butch" Ott, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Barbara Dean and Carol Dean. Serving as pallbearers will be: Daniel Dean, Seth Dean, Dawson Whitaker, Zachary Whitaker, Tyler Pittman, Jordan Fink, and Rafael Jiminez.
