It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Susan Morrell Loving announces the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Marshall Granville Loving, 79. Mr. Loving entered into rest on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 1 o'clock on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, with The Rev. John "Bootsie" Griggs officiating. The United States Navy will render Military Honors, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 3810, or The Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551. Mr. Loving was born on Thursday, July 12, 1945, in Essex County, VA. He is the son of the late Sanford Loving and the late Doris Taylor Loving. Marshall and Susan have been married for 34 years, along with a year of prior courtship, totaling 35 years together. Marshall was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, serving on the USS Guadalcanal (LPH-7). Marshall was transferred from CP&L in Virginia to the CP&L in Hartsville, SC. It didn't take him long to fall in love with South Carolina, thus retiring here decades later. Marshall was a hustler and not one to sit still for very long. Thus, he worked many gainful jobs, including being a car dealer and owning several businesses that he and his wife, Susan, soared at. He finally bought a Freightliner car hauler, and he traveled throughout the States doing what he loved, making many friends and seeing many places. He later retired to enjoy life, and that he did. Marshall was an avid coon hunter, winning many trophies. He loved hunting and fishing, he loved going to auctions, and he was an avid Redskins fan. He enjoyed Friday night lights watching Hartsville High School play. He also enjoyed going to the Northern League games when his health would allow him to watch Colton and Kinsley play baseball. He loved his animals each and every one. Marshall was a kind man but stern at times. If he loved you, you knew it. He would go above and beyond for those he truly loved. There was nothing Susan could want for that he would not get her! Marshall and Susan didn't have any children, but along the way, two fell at their feet, Tony and Lynn Cassidy. Not by blood but by love, then shortly thereafter, that family became larger when Tony Cassidy Jr. and Timmie Cassidy were born. But the love and joy didn't end there. Decades later, they had children totaling four! Proud would be an understatement! Marshall loved the Cassidy family as if they truly were his, and they loved him, each one! Marshall was a jokester and would tell Tony and Timmie many things, some good, some not so good (LOL). Please keep Susan in your prayers In the days, weeks, and months ahead. But always remember this: Marshall will be missed by all who loved him, yet remembered by everyone! He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Morrell Loving; sister, Barbara Shackelford; brother-in-law, Wayne Morrell; and nephew, Taylor Morrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willard Loving and Ronnie Loving; and sister, Pearl Bazacos.
