Margie Carver

Margie Lee Hawkins Carver, age 91, of Hartsville, SC, passed away peacefully at her home on March 30, 2011. Born in Hartsville, SC on December 30, 1919, she was the first of 8 children born to the late George Dewey Hawkins and the late Vera O’Neal Hawkins. She was a graduate of Antioch High School in the Byrdtown Community in Hartsville and McLeod School of Nursing in Florence, SC where she received her nursing training as a registered nurse. Margie married the late, Philip W. Carver, Sr., on July 3, 1943 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Charleston, SC. They were married for 54 years. Survivors include her son, Wayne Carver and his wife, Sylda, of Kerhonkson, NY; her daughter, Betsy Carver Stanwood and her husband, Doug, of Wilmington, NC; 3 grandchildren; Forrest Carver of St. Petersburg, FL; Nikki Dees of Charleston, SC and Tyler Stanwood of Wilmington, NC ; 3 great grand- children; Phoenix, Isaac, and Gavin Dees all of Charleston, SC. She has 3 surviving sisters, Barbara Gainey and Celeste Smith of Hartsville and Emily Floride Hamilton of Milwaukie, Oregon. She was preceded in passing by her brothers Vernon, George, Jr., Jack, and Ross Hawkins. Margie was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She loved her family, her home and talking with everyone she encountered. She was an endless source of information on her family’s history, loved her flowers and was always ready to enjoy a meal with family and friends. She lived her life to the fullest. Our “little social butterfly” will be missed. She was lovingly supported by Life Care Hospice, in particular, April, Doris Ann, Cynthia, Amanda and Tabitha and her very special friends and caregivers Jannie, Patsy and Rosemary. The family thanks all those family members and friends who visited her. Following a private graveside ceremony on Saturday, April 2, 2011, the family requests that family and friends join them in honoring their mother by attending services in celebration of her life at Bethlehem United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Patricia Warden will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Margie’s home, 2217 Hummingbird Street.
